When a patient searches “best dentist near me,” the practices that show up first aren’t just lucky. They’ve worked intentionally to be found and trusted online.
In today’s world, most patients form their first impression of your office before they ever step inside. That impression starts with what they see in search results. If your practice isn’t visible, you’re missing out. If you are visible but not credible, patients will move on to someone who feels more trustworthy.
The combination of visibility and credibility is what drives patient growth in 2025 and beyond. Below are the steps every dental practice can take to achieve both, based on insights from the latest Whitespark Local Search Ranking Factors report.
1. Start with Your Google Business Profile
Think of your Google Business Profile (GBP) as the new front door to your dental practice. When someone searches for a dentist nearby, this listing is usually what they see first — often before your website.
To make the most of it:
• Claim and complete every field. Your name, address and phone number should match exactly everywhere they appear.
• Pick the right categories. Your primary category should describe your main service, such as “General Dentist,” “Cosmetic Dentist” or “Pediatric Dentist.” You can add secondary ones for specialties like “Dental Implants” or “Emergency Dentist.”
• Write a strong business description. In a few sentences, describe who you are, what you do and why patients choose you.
• Add photos and videos. Include real images of your team, operatories and waiting area. Authentic visuals help patients feel more comfortable calling you.
• List services and attributes. Use GBP’s features to list your key treatments, such as “Invisalign,” “Same-Day Crowns” or “Teeth Whitening.”
2. Make Your Website Work for You
Your website is where patients go to confirm what they saw in search results. It not only converts visitors into new patients but also reinforces your authority in Google’s eyes.
• Create a dedicated page for each service. If you want to rank for “dental implants,” don’t bury it in a list — give it its own page.
• Use clear local language. Mention your city and nearby communities naturally throughout your site, like “Serving Coral Springs, Parkland and the surrounding Broward County area.”
• Showcase patient-focused content. Explain procedures clearly, answer FAQ’s and highlight technology that sets you apart.
• Ensure your site is fast and mobile-friendly. A slow or outdated site turns patients away and lowers your rankings.
• Add local schema (structured data). This helps search engines connect your practice with your location and services.
3. Google Reviews: Why Feedback Fuels Trust and Rankings
Feedback is vital to your online reputation. In fact, the number of Google feedback entries and how often new ones are received (feedback velocity) are among the most important factors in local search rankings.
Here’s how to make Google feedback work for you:
• Ask consistently. The best time to request feedback is right after a great appointment. A simple text or email makes it easy for patients to respond.
• Focus on quantity and frequency. Google rewards practices that get steady feedback over time rather than a burst once a year. A consistent flow signals that your office is active and trusted.
• Encourage detailed responses. Patients who describe the treatment they received and their experience help both other patients and Google understand your services.
• Respond to all feedback. Thank happy patients and address any concerns professionally. Engagement shows potential patients you care.
• Monitor your results. Keep an eye on your total number of Google feedback entries, your average star rating and how quickly new responses come in.
4. Keep Your Practice Information Consistent Everywhere
Your practice details — name, address, phone number and hours — must be consistent across all online platforms. When Google sees conflicting information, it lowers your trust score.
To stay accurate:
• Audit your listings on major sites like Google and your dental association directories.
• Correct any mismatched spellings, abbreviations or old phone numbers.
• Update your hours, especially for holidays.
• Remove duplicates or inactive profiles.
5. Earn Local Links and Mentions
Think of links as professional referrals from other websites. When credible local sources mention or link to your practice, it builds authority.
Simple ways to earn them:
• Join local organizations. The Chamber of Commerce and community associations often feature member listings.
• Sponsor local events or youth sports teams. Ask organizers to include your name and website link.
• Publish educational content. Write helpful articles such as “Five Myths About Whitening” or “Tips for First-Time Invisalign Patients.”
• Get local media coverage. Offer quotes for oral health stories or participate in community initiatives.
6. Encourage Online Engagement
Google pays attention to how people interact with your listings and website. The more patients click, call and engage, the more likely you are to appear in top results.
Encourage interaction by:
• Using “Book Appointment” and “Call Now” buttons on your Google listing.
• Keeping your contact options clear and easy to use.
• Posting regular updates on Google.
• Adding clear calls-to-action like “Schedule Now” or “Ask About Whitening.”
• Tracking which actions lead to appointments so you can double down on what works.
7. Think Local in Every Way
Your patients are searching nearby, so your strategy should feel local.
• Verify your address and map pin on Google.
• Mention nearby landmarks or neighborhoods in your content.
• Add local photos that show your real environment.
• If you have multiple locations, give each one its own webpage and Google listing.
8. Keep Tracking, Learning and Improving
Visibility is not one-and-done. It’s something you maintain and refine over time.
Best practices include:
• Tracking how you rank for your main keywords and services.
• Watching your Google feedback flow each month to ensure it stays steady.
• Refreshing photos, services and office hours regularly.
• Monitoring your competitors to see what’s working for them.
• Measuring real outcomes such as phone calls, form fills and booked appointments.
9. From Visibility to Credibility to Growth
Visibility gets you seen. Credibility gets you chosen.
The fastest-growing dental practices combine both. They appear at the top of local search results, look professional and trustworthy online and make it easy for patients to take action.
To recap:
1. Optimize your Google Business Profile.
2. Build a clear and engaging website.
3. Ask for and respond to Google feedback consistently.
4. Keep all business listings accurate.
5. Earn local links and mentions.
6. Encourage online engagement.
7. Think local in every piece of content.
8. Track your progress and keep improving.
Final Thoughts
Your online presence reflects your in-office experience. Patients want to feel confident before they even call you. They will be far more likely to schedule when they see a polished, active and well-reviewed practice.
Visibility brings you attention. Credibility turns that attention into trust. Together they create a thriving dental practice that continues to grow year after year.
